We couldn't just walk away. We went straight up to them and gently wrapped them in thick, warm blankets. Seeing them shiver on the cold, hard ground broke our hearts. But the second that warm blanket covered their shoulders, the pure relief on their faces was absolute magic. You could instantly see the comfort wash over them.

But giving them a blanket was only half the story. The real connection happened when we sat down right there on the freezing street with them. We held their hands and just listened. They opened up about their hard lives, how they survive each day, and how scary and lonely it gets out there at night.

In those few minutes, we weren't just an NGO handing out items; we were sitting together like family. As we talked, their sadness turned into big, beautiful smiles. They gave our team so many heartfelt blessings. It reminded us that sometimes, giving someone your time and making them feel loved is the greatest gift of all.

On this International Women's Day, our team went out to find the unsung heroes of our city—'The Women' who work on the footpaths to keep their families alive. We met a group of brave mothers sitting on the street with their little children. These women don't get holidays or fancy celebrations; their only goal is to make sure their children have food to eat. It was very emotional to see them smiling despite having so many struggles in their lives.

We decided to make this day special for them by sharing some joy. We brought bright balloons for the kids and sat down with the mothers to hear their stories. One mother told us that society often treats them as if they are invisible, and nobody ever stops to ask how they are doing. We spent time talking to them like friends, laughing with the babies, and making sure these women felt the respect and love they truly deserve on their special day.

To see the baby playing with the balloon and the mother’s face glowing with pride was the best gift for us. We realized that being a "woman of strength" isn't just about big achievements; it’s about the lady who sits on the hard ground all day just to protect her child. We shared some gifts and healthy snacks with them, but more importantly, we shared our time. Their blessings and happy waves as we left were more powerful than any award we could ever receive.

We began by bowing before The Great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ji, who taught us the importance of helping others. With his blessings in our hearts, we set out to reach the people who work & live on the streets. We saw many workers & families who spend their whole day in the heat & noise of the city, often without a proper meal to look forward to.

To ensure the best for them, our team personally packed every single meal packet with our own hands. We used only top-quality food because we believe everyone deserves a meal made with love and care. After packing everything ourselves, we went out onto the streets distribute these packets to hardworking laborers, elderly people, and little children.

The experience was deeply moving as we handed out the meals one by one. We sat down with the children and spoke with the workers, listening to their daily struggles while they enjoyed their fresh food. It wasn't just a distribution; it was a moment of connection. Seeing their tired faces turn into bright smiles reminded us that a simple meal served with kindness can change someone's entire day.

We traveled to a remote and unseen area where the air was filled with dust and the sun was burning hot. We saw people working incredibly hard, stacking heavy bricks one by one. It was heartbreaking to see even the smallest children working alongside their parents, carrying weights that their tiny hands should not have to hold. They were learning to work before they even learned to play.

To bring some relief to their exhausting day, we personally hand-packed top-quality, healthy meal packets. We went into the heart of the vasti to distribute these meals to every worker and child. Seeing their surprise as we approached them was a reminder that these hardworking families are often completely forgotten by the rest of the world as they build the houses we live in.

As we sat on the dusty ground with them, the atmosphere changed from one of labor to one of joy. The children’s faces lit up with pure happiness as they opened their food. One mother told us that having someone actually stop to see their struggle and share a meal meant more to her than words could say. We spent time listening to their stories and letting them know they are valued.

Our team visited a Blind School in Badlapur where children experience the world through touch and sound rather than sight. We saw them walking to their classes with smiles on their faces, holding each other's shoulders for support and trusting the voices of their friends. It was incredible to see how they navigate their daily lives with such confidence and joy, despite the darkness in their eyes.

During our visit, our team & family sat down with the students personally and listened to their dreams. One little boy told us something that shook our hearts; he said, “Bhaiya, mujhe doctor banna hai… taki main logon ko theek kar sakoon.” Even though he has never seen a hospital or a doctor, his dream was so clear and strong. It reminded us that true vision comes from the heart, not just from what we see with our eyes.

We shared a meal with the children and spent the day playing music and singing together. They don't complain about the small things like we often do; instead, they fight battles we can't even imagine with a constant smile on their faces. Every touch is a story to them, and every sound is a direction. Their courage and determination showed us what real strength looks like.

Jab subah ki bell baji, bachche haste hue apni class ki taraf badhe — kisi ke kandhe par haath rakh kar, kisi ki awaaz par bharosa karke. Unki duniya alag hai, par unka hausla sabse bada hai. Aankhon mein andhera zaroor hai, lekin dil mein ek aisi roshni hai jo hum mein se kai logon mein bhi nahi hoti.

Our team member Chetan Shinde chose to celebrate his birthday with these incredible children. Accompanied by his family and our whole Nayi Umeed team, we spent the day immersed in their world. Seeing their confidence as they navigated the school, holding onto each other and moving with so much grace, left Chetan deeply moved. Tears filled his eyes as he realized how much courage these small children show every single day.

We shared a special meal by ou hands with everyone. The joy of the children as they sang and played music for us was the best gift Chetan could have received. It was a day of deep connection where we didn't just celebrate a birthday; we celebrated the human spirit and the light that shines from within, even when the world is dark.

On his birthday night, our team leader Sudarshan Hulavale chose a different path. Instead of having a big party with friends, he reached out to the children who live on the streets. He wanted his special day to be a reason for someone else to smile. The night was quiet, but as soon as he arrived, the air was filled with excitement and happy whispers from the kids.Ek chhoti si ladki ne muskurate hue Sudarshan ko poocha, “Bhaiya, aaj kya special hai?” Sudarshan ne halke se hans kar kaha, “Aaj mera birthday hai… aur main tum sab ke saath celebrate karna chahta hoon.”

Sudarshan personally distributed healthy snacks and a delicious cake to all the children. He sat down with them, shared a piece of cake, and laughed like they were his own family. You could see the pure joy on the children's faces as they enjoyed these special treats. It wasn't just about the food; it was about the time and love he gave them on a night that usually belongs only to himself.

The kids were so happy that they started singing and dancing around him. They didn't have much to give back, but their bright eyes and loud cheers were the best birthday gift Sudarshan could have ever asked for. It was a beautiful reminder that true happiness comes when we stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking about how we can make someone else's life a little bit brighter.

We arrived at a remote village where life is simple but the hearts are very big. As soon as we entered, the villagers surprised us by showering us with fresh flowers. It was such a beautiful and overwhelming welcome that we felt like we were back in our own homes. Their kindness was so pure and honest that it brought tears to our eyes.

Our family members and team didn't just stand there; we sat down right on the dusty ground with the villagers. We spent hours talking and sharing our life stories with them, and they shared their struggles and dreams with us. There was no difference between us—we were just humans sitting together, laughing and bonding over the simple things in life.

We also distributed clothes and food to the families who work so hard every day. Seeing the small children wearing new clothes and the elderly people holding our hands with so much respect was very moving. We realized that these people don't need much; they just need someone to sit with them and show them that they are not forgotten by the rest of the world.
